Review
Eva Ibbotson's done it again: she's written a beautiful young adult romance novel that can also be enjoyed by adults. Set after World War I and the Russian Revolution, A Countess Below Stairs is an excellent look into the lives of the Russian nobles flooding into Britain. Ibbotson does a beautiful job telling the story of Rupert and Anna, British and Russian nobility, respectively. Anna is a Russian countess working as a housemaid for Rupert, and the two of them slowly fall in love. The history of this book is splendid. It does not take center in the book, but it sufficiently tells the story and adds context. The romance is logical in accordance to the historical context, but it is also a true fairy tale. I give two thumbs up to A Countess Below Stairs!
