Juvenile Justice: Theory, Systems, and Organization provides a unique approach to understanding the juvenile justice system. It not only explains the system as it is today, but also attempts to explain how the juvenile justice practitioner, whether he or she is a street level bureaucrat, supervisor, or executive, can make the system work for the benefit of the youth. This volume carefully looks at the juvenile justice system as it is and in carefully constructed language explains the dynamics of the system. However, it is not enough to understand the juvenile justice system as if it stands alone, but one must understand that it is influenced by other subsystems with which it interacts. In the classroom, artificial divisions are made to facilitate discussions. This is a valuable approach, but hardly reflects the real world. This book attempts not only to educate the reader on the juvenile justice system, but also on how to bring the system together in order to serve the child and the community.
